This is the MRTG file I used to understand how to configure Penguincares. :)
REMEMBER TO USE INDEXMAKER TO CREATE A NEW MRTG INDEX FILE AFTER YOU HAVE ADDED MORE STUFF TO YOUR PENGUINCARES.CFG FILE.
indexmaker –output=/home/tepezcuintle/web/mrtg/index.html /etc/mrtg/penguincares.cfg

First of all, my believe that to successfully manage a system, you must use rpm to distribute software - compiling and installing from source may work at the beginning, and in small scale, but you quickly get bogged down and the system becomes unmanageable.

Configuring mrtg to monitor a server.
I will be using mrtg, ucd-snmp (now net-snmp), and some some apache plugins to provide a detailed system status. The system I am using is RH 7.1, but I will try to make the instructions as general as possible. An example output of such system is available here and here.

Authenticating Linux against Active Directory
One thing to keep in mind is that ? even when signed on in active directory - it doesn’t offer a complete single sign on ? yet. You will still have to provide a user name and password if using a windows based proxy server such as ISA server. You will probably still have to use a user name and password if using a windows based mail server (Although Evolution supports GSS API and through this you should be able to eliminate this sign-on ? I will be trying this out at some point).

Introduction
Setting up a RAID system with Slackware is not extremely difficult once you have a good idea of what you are doing. It can be a slightly daunting task the first few times, especially if you aren’t comfortable with the intricacies of LILO and working on the command line. The existing documentation for configuring software RAID I found on the web and Usenet was either from 1998, or specific to one distribution, such as Red Hat. The most recent document I could find was dated January 2000, which is still very old at the time of the original writing, late September 2001. So why a Slackware specific RAID document? Other than the fact that Slackware is the only distribution I use, it is such a ‘generic’ distribution that almost all of what is presented here can be easily ported to other distributions.
